Awesome book , would be a. Great give for any woman. Well written and thought provoking
This book was recommended to me by several people and I found it to be refreshing, inspirational and heartfelt. I think that personal recommendations are so much more worthwhile than anonymous reviews...and I'm so glad not to have been discouraged by the completely misguided comment by "Tah Dah." My take on Ms. Tallent's book is that we are all beautiful in God's eyes, even if we're not "runway material." I enjoyed the fashion tips that she gave and didn't feel shortchanged at all. This book is not about colors and accessories, although she does touch on these topics as ways we might enhance what God has given us. It's about loving ourselves and realizing that we don't have to look and dress like a movie star in order to be "Beautiful." I commend you, Tica Tallent, for writing a book that focuses on what is really beautiful in each of us and not writing yet another book about "colors." I wonder if that person is the author of the book she pushed. From what I've read about you (and I loved what was written on the back of the book), you are highly sought after doing motivational programs - keep it up!
Ms. Tallent seems like a lovely, caring lady who has gained a lot of knowledge from her experiences as a personal shopper, and while I'd love to have her by my side when I am shopping, there was simply not enough useful information in this book to make it worthwhile. When discussing colors, she only touches on warm and cool, but does not offer any actual examples (for example, a woman with a fair complexion, light hair and green eyes may generally be a warm, whereas a woman with dark hair and brown eyes may do better with cool tones). And what about prints and level of contrast?
She mentions that accessories can really elevate an outfit, but her tips are to invest in good quality leather belts, handbags and shoes if possible, and to play around with scarves. She touches on the importance of well-fitting undergarments, and then that chapter concludes with a discussion of hosiery, including the line, "Here the naturally brown-skinned ladies have a great advantage!" What?! Bare legs - even pale - have been the norm for over a decade unless one works in a very conservative office (or in some churches) and frankly her advice comes off as outdated and old. There is a brief discussion as to body shape, but NOTHING about what types of clothes work best for each type - Fitted shirts? A-line skirts? Wide-legged trousers?
If someone is picking up a book such as this, I'm guessing they're looking for specific information on how to take charge of their personal style. I would recommend investing in Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad A Style Guide for Every Woman as a resource that specifically addresses coloring, body type, hairstyle, and use of accessories (complete with photos).
